Born in Ontario, Canada and educated at the University of Toronto and Dalhousie University, Mr. Shepherd has been extensively involved in exports throughout his business career. He has worked with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Export Development Corporation, Imperial Chemical Industries PLC and Trafalgar House PLC, as well as a stint as Chief Financial Officer with the Nexus group of Companies in Burnaby, B.C. Canada.
As President and founding director of NORTHSTAR, Mr. Shepherd is very involved with the promotion and support of small and medium sized exporters throughout the world.
Mr. Shepherd serves on a number of Canadian Boards. He is the Chair, BC Provincial Committee, Canadian Armed Forces Liaison Council; Governor, Dalhousie University; Chairman, MDS Aero Support Corporation; Honourary Consul of Uruguay for British Columbia and Alberta; National Arts Centre Foundation Director; Director and Chair of Audit Committee, Ridley Terminals, a Federal Crown Corporation appointed May 2008; Honourary President for British Columbia and Yukon St. John Ambulance Brigade; Past National Director and Member of Audit Committee, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters; Past Governor, BC Institute for Studies in International Trade; Past Vice-Chair and Trustee, Richmond Hospital Foundation; Past Director and Chair of Audit Committee MDS Aero Support Corp.; Past Director and Chair of Audit Committee Pender Financial Group Corp.; Former Governor, York House School.

Matthias started his career in banking with Comerzbank AG of Germany and later joined KfW, the German development bank, to finance export and project finance deals globally. Subsequently, he moved to Hong Kong where he joined Siemens Financial Services (Siemens Finance Asia Ltd.). Here he advised the Siemens subsidiaries in Asia Pacific on all matters related to the financing of their plant and equipment sales.
After his return to Germany, Matthias joined a task force organizing the separation of the export- and project finance product line of KfW into KfW-IPEX Bank. He lead their petrochemical sector team for five years and eventually became head of export and trade finance at KfW IPEX-Bank, from where he moved on to his current position.

Mr. MacKenzie has been involved with NorthStar Trade Finance since its inception in 1994. Craig obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University and furthered his studies at the University of British Columbia. As the Managing Director, Craig is very involved with the promotion and support of small and medium sized exporters in Canada, and has been instrumental in the successful completion of many direct loans to companies in such countries as China, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico.
Craig’s extensive background in structuring financing solutions for international buyers has made him a trusted name in the export finance world. His contacts, clients and counterparts in the financial community look to him for continued trusted advice in delivering simplified answers for complex transactions.

Steve Bow was born in Australia and received his Engineering degree from the University of Sydney, and his MBA from the University of Alberta. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (Ret.) and is also Certified General Accountant.
Steve has worked extensively in Australia and Canada in both the Engineering and Finance fields. More recently Steve has worked as the Finance Manager of a multi-national engineering firm in Sydney, the Director of Financial Planning for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the AVP Finance at Royal Roads University. Steve joined Northstar Trade Finance in September 2005 as the Executive Vice President, Operations.
Steve is also actively involved in community youth sports, focusing on soccer, field hockey and rugby.
